Margaret Deefholts started her writing career as a short-fiction writer in the early 1990s. Her stories have won (and continue to win) literary awards in Canadian short fiction magazines. Several tales have been internationally published in India, Australia and the USA.

Her numerous travel articles have been published in The Globe and Mail, the Vancouver Sun, The Georgia Straight and several community newspapers serving Vancouver and the Lower Mainland, as well as Cathay Pacific's In-flight Magazine.

Tourism Malaysia honoured her with an award as the best International Travel Writer in 2003.

Other than newspaper publications, her article on "Rohinton Mistry's Mumbai" was included in the publication: "Literary Trips: Following in the Footsteps of Fame". Excerpts from this essay have been aired on CBC Radio One in 2003 and 2004 as part of a dramatization series on Mistry's "A Fine Balance."

She is the author of a book entitled "Haunting India" a collection of short fiction, travel and memoir whereby she draws upon her Anglo-Indian roots.
